One Should Have Determination, Be Diligent, and Have Faith In Practising NGONDRO

In Tibetan Buddhism, Hinayana, Mahayana and Vajrayana all the same have to strat with Ngondro as the basic pratice. Ngondro means "Preliminary". Without finishing the Ngondro practice, one can not elevate its level to a higher rank. Before one is ready to practice the Ngondro, one must understand and keep in mind the Four Thoughts:

  1. The Precious Human Birth.
  2. Impermanece.
  3. Karmic Cause and Effect.
  4. The Shortcoming of Samsara.

The 1 st Ngondro
Refuge and Prostration of 111,000 times is to prepare one for the practice of the other three, like preparing a very good container to contain the rest of the result from pratice. Our body and mind after this became very solid and pure, our negative karma is being disperse, because without a clean body, we can never go throgh our further pratice.

Then the 2nd Ngondro
Vajrasattva Dorje Sempa. Chanting the Dorje Sempa's 100 syllable 111,000 times will cleanse and purify the negative karma accmulated from the beginningless past life until this life. One can feel the wisdom is opened after this, any Dharma teaching is easily understood.

The 3 rd Ngondro
is Mandala Offering. the offering of 111,000 times of Manadala Offering is purely for the accumulation of merits. We offer all the most beautiful and best objects to the Buddha. Aside from mandala offering, establishing a monastery, a stupa, a statue, giving charity and the like are also accumulating merits, this is to be our food (wisdom) for the practice of the 4th Ngondro, then pratising Guru Yoga will be very easy, because our wisdom is already opened.

The 4 th Ngondro
is the Guru Yoga of Mind practice. After the 4 th Ngondro practice, one is elevated to a higher level, all the higher Vajrayana practices which are very secret and difficult to understand can now be easily attained, like the higher kind of meditation and Mahamudra practices. Ven. Lama Choyeng encourges every Buddhist practitioner to take on this road to a higher attainment and ultimately, to the path of enlightenment.
